Originally written for solo piano in 1910, La Plus Que Lente (The more than slow) epitomizes Claude Debussy's romantic style of solo and chamber works. It serves as Debussy's caustic interpretation of the slow waltz, which was popular in France around the turn of the century and would have been heard in coffee-shops, dance-halls, and even salons. This arrangement of the five-minute piece is lazy and wonderfully atmospheric; scored for reed quintet, it takes full advantage of the flowing melodies and romantic harmonies of this sentimental slow waltz.
